Equinox Education Services were delighted to be exhibit our #Study #Abroad programmes at the Transition Year Teachers Professional Network #TYTPN 2018 conference in #Athlone last week. The annual conference brings together over 100 secondary school teachers from throughout Ireland to discuss all aspects of the Transitional Year (TY) and agree on best practice for programming, learning and teaching in order to achieve the best outcomes for students and teachers alike. In the Republic Of Ireland, the Transition Year (TY) is a one-year programme taken after Junior Cycle and before the two-year Leaving Certificate programme, usually for students aged 15 to 17, and is designed to act as a bridge between the two programmes. At the moment it is available to all second-level schools and currently some 550 schools offer the programme , which may be optional or mandatory for students depending on a particular school’s policy. Each school designs its own TY programme following set guidelines and often takes into account the possibilities offered by local community interests.
TY CONFERENCE IN ATHLONE
This year, the focus of topics and workshops presented to the delegation very much centred on fostering entrepreneurism in students and exploring technology, science and language options during TY. Equinox were on hand to talk to a number of school Principals, TY coordinators, language and career teachers about the broad range of overseas programmes that we offer to students within these age categories and we look forward to holding a number of workshops and presentations in these schools in the near future.
